Consulting & Decision Support
Do you want to buy a home that will NOT be an energy guzzler? Would you rather spend your hard-earned money on yourself, your loved ones, or your favorite hobby? Do you have allergies that you suspect might be irritated by construction materials? Are you unsure of how to find a healthy, low-footprint home?
re-HOME can, with minimal time and expense involved, teach you what to look for and who to listen to. It's not difficult, but it can be daunting to you if you are new to 'green building'.
re-HOME consultants are flexible in the ways that we can work with you. Consulting for home buyers may include but are not limited to the following:
Energy efficiency consulting:
- re-HOME consultants can give you generalized instruction on simple things to look for when shopping for a new home to ensure maximum energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Some house characteristics will add 10-15% to your air conditioning bill for the life of your home. Find out what those things are.
- re-HOME consultants can also come into a prospective or newly-purchased home informally to help show you the quick and easy, but non-construction-type, ways to make your home more energy efficient.
- We give 'energy assessments' more formally as well. Please see our 'energy assessment' offerings.
Decision support:
Use us to help you with questions you have such as the following:
- You see the potential for energy efficiency in a prospective home that you've seen, but you want to make sure that it won't be the next Money Pit. The people at the Home Show recommended new Low-E windows. However, should you really get new windows or is your money best spent elsewhere?
- Your brother-in-law is raving about his whole-house fan. Yet, you wonder: Is that the best way to take advantage of the diurnal temperature swings in Tucson?
- You want to get as 'off-the-grid' as you can in this new home. What is the best, most efficient way to start this process?
- You would like to utilize your grey water. How can you most easily (an inexpensively) go about doing that in a new home or what do you look for in prospective homes?
